NAB chairman resigns again
Daily Times Monitor
LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Naveed Ahsan has tendered his resignation on the directives of the federal government, a private TV channel reported on Saturday.
Sources confirmed that his resignation has been sent to the Prime Minister’s House for approval, adding that the government forced him to quit after he allegedly sent secret reports to the Supreme Court (SC) in the Bank of Punjab (BoP) scandal case. During the hearing of the BoP case, the Supreme Court had expressed surprise and anger over the continuation of the services of the NAB chairman.
Additional Chairman NAB Jawed Zia Qazi will step in as the acting chairman if Ahsan’s resignation gets accepted. Ahsan had earlier resigned in February 2010 as well but Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had asked him to continue till the appointment of his successor, the channel said.
In February 2010, he offered his resignation after a meeting held to review the progress on the implementation of the Supreme Court’s NRO verdict. The controversy over the issue of who would write a letter to Swiss authorities to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari had led him to his earlier resignation.
