CM regrets criticism to Sasti Roti, but not of BoP scam

* Shahbaz Sharif says Punjab Youth Commission will be made formal institution

Staff Report

LAHORE: No voice has been raised against those who robbed the Bank of Punjab (BoP), plundered national resources and got loans worth billions of rupees waived off, but criticism starts whenever welfare steps are taken for the poor, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.

Addressing the concluding session of a two-day Punjab Youth Conference, the CM said no one could even think of depriving the poor of their livelihood in this inflation. He said nefarious designs of critics of the Sasti Roti Scheme would be foiled.

The CM announced that the Punjab Youth Commission (PYC) would be made a formal institution and Youth Employment Fund would be allocated in the provincial budget.

Provincial ministers, parliamentarians, vice chancellors, principals, headmasters, teachers, educationists, intellectuals, columnists, and 360 members of the PYC belonging to 36 districts of the province attended the ceremony.

He said the way the students had given their proposals for the resolution of problems being faced by the country was a proof that Pakistan would definitely benefit from their positive approach.

“We have to make the labourers, farmers and workers realise that they have as much right over the resources of Pakistan as the elite,” he said, adding that there was a need to ensure provision of education, health and other facilities to all without any discrimination from Khyber to Karachi.

He said that the foremost duty of the young generation was to equip itself with education and it was the responsibility of the government to use all its resources to educate them.

Shahbaz said billions of rupees were spent in the name of “Parha Likha Punjab” during the previous regime, but the educational institutions were still lacking the basic facilities.

He said he did not defend fake degrees of legislators rather condemned them, but the inventor of the condition of BA was a person who removed the constitutional clause for horse-trading and again incorporated the clause after fulfilling his objectives.

MNA Ayaz Ameer, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Vice Chairman Dr Amjad Saqib and intellectual Attaul Haq Qasmi also addressed the conference.
