Rs500bn plus Punjab budget today


LAHORE: Punjab Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira will present budget 2010-2011 in the Provincial Assembly here on Monday. The proposed budget is expected to increase its allocations in health and education sectors. Both these portfolios have become totally provincial subjects recently.

The provincial outlay of the budget is expected to be Rs500 billion plus with an expected increase in ADP portfolio. In the budget the project of Sasti Roti would have enhanced attention to make it a corruption free portfolio.

In the coming year it is expected that Rapid Mass Transit System would be given extra emphasis by the provincial government and it is hoped to get a revenue generation through the proposed next financial year budget is expected.

A special emphasis in the budget is expected be on development of roads and infrastructure and increase in outlay here is expected. Provincial employees and pensioners are expected to get a raise in line with federal budget that was recently presented in the National Assembly.

In the budget Rs 48 billion more are expected to be kept under this head. Another priority of the provincial government is law and order where it is expected to multiply its spending under this head. The province had been hit frequently by terrorism menace recently.
