ANP, PML-F urge president to restore Karachi's old status

KARACHI: Delegations of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and the Awami National Party (ANP) separately called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Bilawal House on Wednesday, proposing he order the division of Karachi into five districts as per the city’s old administrative structure to resolve the controversy over the local government system. The PML-F delegation, led by Adviser to Sindh CM Imtiaz Shaikh, informed the president that the formula was acceptable to all political parties. Shaikh said the president assured the delegations that all its concerns would be resolved under the government’s reconciliatory policy. The ANP delegation included senior leader Amin Khatak, Amir Nawab and Amanullah Mehsud. Khatak told reporters that the delegation discussed matters relating to target killings, re-demarcation of constituencies, land mafia and development funds with the president. staff report
