SC seeks academic record of PPP MNA from Bahawalpur
ISLAMABAD: A three-member Supreme Court (SC) bench on Thursday directed the registrars of the Balochistan and Bahawalpur universities to produce the academic record of a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member of national assembly (MNA). The court asked that the record of the MNA from the NA-184 constituency, Bahawalpur be submitted by July 2. The bench – comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday – was hearing a petition filed by Mian Najibuddin Owais of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) challenging Amir Yar Warran’s graduation degree. The petitioner contended that Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University had notified Amir’s degree as bogus. Afterwards, he said, Amir had another person sit for the BA exam from the Bahawalpur University under his name. However, he was caught and was declared ineligible for taking the exam for three years, Owais said. In the meanwhile, the petitioner contended, Amir managed to get a BA degree from the Balochistan University. At this, Justice Ramday questioned, “Does the law allow a person who is a fraud to sit in parliament and decide upon people’s fates?” staff report
