No institution can cross its limits now, says Gilani
* PM says 18th Amend has defined the role of all institutions
* Says he is not against Kalabagh dam but govt respects resolutions passed by 3 provinces against the dam
LAHORE/MULTAN: The 18th Amendment has restricted the powers of all institutions and they cannot go beyond their powers now, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Sunday.
Talking to senior journalists in Multan Circuit House, the prime minister said the government had invited PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif to parliament and the PPP had always promoted politics of reconciliation.
He said it was unfair to hold politicians alone responsible for all the problems facing the country.
Dam: He said Kalabagh Dam could become an asset for the country, adding that he was not against its construction, a private TV channel reported.
To a question the prime minister said he was not against new provinces, however the time was not suitable to raise such issues because the country was already facing many challenges, APP reported. The matter should be raised in accordance with the law and at an appropriate time, he said.
The prime minister said Pakistan had conveyed the estimates of the losses the country had suffered in the war against terrorism and conveyed them to US President Barrack Obama, adding that now the world should do more to assist Pakistan in the fight.
“Brave soldiers of the Pakistan armed forces are engaged in fighting against terrorism. They are sacrificing their lives. The FC, FIA, ISI and police personnel, civilians and political workers are also being targeted in the fight,” Gilani said, adding that this was “our own fight but its success will also benefit the rest of the world”.
Prime Minister Gilani said the Pakistan Army had captured numerous strongholds of the Taliban.
“After facing defeat, the terrorists have now moved to thickly-populated cities,” he said.
Addressing a gathering after inspecting the construction of Rs 2.5 billion Head Mohammadwala project, Gilani said the government was serving the people in accordance with the vision of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
He said the promises made by Zulfikar Bhutto and Benazir would be fulfilled. daily times monitor/app
