Attack on Pasban rally leaves 8 injured, 3 missing
Staff Report
KARACHI: Eight Pasban activists were injured and three went missing on Sunday when what were believed to be plainclothes policemen opened fire on the participants of a Pasban rally near the Kalapul.
A number of participants had gathered near the Kalapul at around 3:40pm to join the central procession at the Karachi Press Club to protest against the ban on pillion riding in the city.
Pasban Karachi president Ashraf Hussain said the police had created hurdles for participants arriving from different parts of the city to join the main procession.
“We do not know who attacked the rally, but they were apparently plainclothes police personnel and members of the transport mafia,” he said.
Hussain added that almost a year and a half had passed since the ban, and it has been causing citizens much irritation.
