Punjab govt providing free medicines: CM
LAHORE: The Punjab government has started providing free medicines in all government hospitals for the first time in the country’s history and Rs 6.5 billion have been allocated for this purpose in the Punjab budget 2010-11, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday.
The Punjab CM made these remarks while meeting a delegation of the newly elected representatives of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) led by its President Asad Shujaur Rehman at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Shahbaz said that in order to provide better health facilities, new hospitals would be constructed on a priority basis and six mobile hospitals would start functioning in the next three months for providing quality health services to the people of far-flung areas. He vowed that the Punjab government wanted to provide health facilities to the citizens at their doorsteps. The Punjab CM said that the PPMA was not only providing quality medicines to the citizens but also playing an effective role in exporting high quality medicines.
Separately, the Punjab CM met the family members of Muhammad Akram who was allegedly tortured to death by criminals and Mujahid Squad personnel. He also met the family of 12-year-old Mudassar who was killed after being raped in Ghaziabad.
Also on Tuesday, the Punjab CM chaired a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to review the counter terrorism strategy. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat between the Punjab government and a German company Welt Konect for cooperation in the solar energy sector Shahbaz also attended a briefing by Metro Group International Affairs Vice President Dr Dirk Bruno Essmann and Star Farm Consulting Company Managing Director Hans Peter regarding Star Farm Technology. staff report
