No military solution to Afghan war: Qureshi
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressing dissatisfaction over deteriorating Afghan situation FM Qureshi said that the talks are the only solution to Afghan problem and no military means can bring peace in the country.Addressing a joint press conference with his Afghan counterpart Dr. Zalmai Rasoul, FM Qureshi said they had very useful and constructive meeting today and mutually agreed to find ways and means in different fields to further enhance the cooperation in these fields.
Foreign Minister Zalmai Rasoul who held bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Qureshi here at Foreign Office discussed different aspects for strengthening the bilateral relations including enhanced leadership interaction.
FM Qureshi said they discussed security situation in the region and especially the efforts of Afghan government to ensure stability in Afghanistan through reconciliation and reviewed bilateral relations in this regard.
He said both the countries agreed to enhance bilateral relations in politics, trade and economic and other fields.
The foreign minister said peace and security in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan therefore, Pakistan has sincerely offered assistance, cooperation and training facilities to Afghanistan in all the fields.
He said Pakistan has offered training to Afghan military so that a well trained Afghan Army can take over the responsibility of the security in their country.
The minister said both the countries have also proposed to have more cooperation for border security.
He said the economic and trade cooperation can increase the present level of 1.5 dollars trade to 5 billion dollars trade by 2015.
He said Pakistan also proposed to set up reconstruction commission to improve construction in Afghanistan.
The minister said both the countries also agreed to have direct road and rail link between Peshawar and Jalalabad and international community is ready to provide necessary funds for this projects.
Qureshi said both the countries also discussed Turkmanistan- Afhganistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
The issue of three million Afghan refugees was also discussed during the meeting with Afghan foreign minister.
He said the issue of smuggling from Afghanistan was also discussed and both the countries also agreed for early finalization of the agreement under discussion between the two countries on Afghan-Transit Trade.
The foreign minister of Afghanistan said the relations between the two countries have been improving. He said he discussed with his counterpart to take measures for real implementation of the past agreements.
Replying to a question about the policy of reconciliation and integration for peace process, the Afghan foreign minister said those Taliban who did not have any link with Al-Qaeda, will lay their arms and follow the Afghan constitution can be contact so that they could become a part of the peaceful society in the country.
He, however said peace and security in both Pakistan and Afghanistan are interlinked and both the countries have to cooperation each other to achieve the goals.
Answering a question about drone attacks, he said, Afghan is against any attack in which innocent people died.
