Public service is Punjab govt’s mission: Shahbaz


LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that public service is the mission of the Punjab government and the provincial budget is reflective of it.

Talking to assembly members here Monday, the CM said that a comprehensive strategy has been adopted to bring deprived segments of society into the mainstream and resources have been diverted to backward areas.

He said that the province will be put on the road to progress with the highest ever allocation for annual development programme in the country's history which will raise the living standard of the people.

He urged assembly members to effectively monitor welfare programme and utilize all their energies to address the problems of the people.

The Chief Minister said that the government has adopted an effective strategy to bring less developed areas at par with developed areas and development schemes are being completed in backward areas on priority basis under this strategy.

He said that the previous rulers made tall claims of developing south Punjab but made no practical effort in this regard.

He said that the previous government spent only Rs. 68billion during last five years for the development of south Punjab while the Punjab government spent Rs. 26 billion on development schemes in south Punjab in its first year, Rs. 42billion in the second year and Rs. 52 billion have been allocated in the next year. He said that the Punjab government would have spent Rs. 120 billion in south Punjab by the end ofthird year.

He said that record funds have been allocated for development schemes in the region and solid steps have been taken for their transparent utilization. He said that corruption-free culture has been promoted in the province and every single penny of the funds allocated for development schemes is being spent transparently.

He said that the Punjab government has launched several welfare projects like setting up IT labs, establishment of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, distribution of 20,000tractors among farmers, Sasti Roti and Dastarkhawn programme and provision of free medicine in hospitals, etc which are benefitting hundreds of thousands of poor families.

He said that the Punjab government is launching mobile hospital project to provide modern and quality health care facilities to the people at their doorsteps. He said that liver transplant facility is being started in Punjab and now patients will not have to go to India or China for this purpose.

Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government is taking solid measures for the development of agriculture and livestock. He said that allotment of state land to agriculture graduates will eliminate unemployment and promote modern agriculture in the province.

He said that farmers will benefit from the experiences of young agri-graduates. He said that Rs. 2 billion subsidy is being given for a project to provide solar energy to tube-wells to deal with the energy crisis in agriculture sector. He said that low cost housing schemes are being launched soon to provide shelter to the homeless people which will materialize dream of low income people to have their own house. He said that 5-marla housing scheme is being launched in rural areas for the homeless people. He said that public representatives should play their due role for the development and prosperity of the province.
