US provides medical gadgets for Jacobabad

ISLAMABAD: As part of a ceremony held on Sunday at the Shahbaz Airbase to induct three US-provided F-16 aircraft into the Pakistan Air Force fleet, US Ambassador Anne W Patterson donated medical equipment for the nearby Jacobabad District Headquarters Hospital.

The ambassador also signed a letter of intent with District Coordination Officer Dr Kazim Jatoi to improve health services for the people of Jacobabad.

"The strength of our economies and our institutions and our people are also key elements of national power," Ambassador Patterson said.

"Today, as we look at these outstanding examples of American military technology, we are also making another commitment to Pakistan, and specifically to the people in the Jacobabad district," she added.

The equipment, provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), included electronic fetal heart monitors, surgical tools, and an autoclave to sterilise surgical equipment.

The donation also included reference tools and materials on proper procedures, for patient's safety, and for maternal, and newborn health. In addition to this donation, USAID has since 2004 sponsored 57 polio eradication campaigns in Jacobabad. app
