Time for govt to take ‘corrective steps’: Nawaz

* PML-N asks govt to avoid confrontation with the judicial system
* Says govt dividing lawyers to degrade judiciary

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said his party had strong reservations over the affairs of the Pakistan People’s Party-led government

“I don’t want to use the word ‘warning’. However, the government will have to take some corrective measures,”

Talking to reporters at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, the government should avoid confrontation with the judiciary by conceding its decisions on various matters.

Degrading: Nawaz alleged that the government was dividing lawyers to degrade the judiciary, besides awarding them huge grants to “buy their loyalties”.

“I salute the bars for refusing to take such grants,” he said.

He vowed to counter all kinds of conspiracies against the country’s judiciary, asserting that they would not remain indifferent to things.

“Is it legitimate to appoint a law associate as the law secretary?” he asked.

To a question, he said the army generals appointed in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have also acquired plots. The politicians and dictators, who plundered the national exchequer, should be taken to task, he said.

He also called for bringing to justice those who had taken huge amount as commission in the Augusta submarines deal.

To another question, Nawaz said, “We after rendering sacrifices, got the 18th amendment passed from the parliament,” and real democracy would be protected at all costs.

“During our tenures in government, we had launched development project without taking any foreign monetary assistance,” he claimed.

Nawaz said corruption of Rs 300 billion was being committed in the country’s institutions. app
