Pakistan-US forming joint anti-terror team

WASHINGTON: US and Pakistani officials say they are forming a new joint counter-terrorism team to go after top militant targets. It is a step to restoring trust between the two nations after the US infuriated Pakistan by launching the May 2 Navy SEAL raid that killed Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan. The officials say the joint intelligence unit was agreed upon after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton presented the Pakistanis with the US list of most-wanted terrorism targets. The officials say top targets include al Qaeda No. 3 Ayman al-Zawahri, and Taliban leaders like Mullah Omar. All those interviewed spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss matters of intelligence. ap
