48 militants killed, 28 security men dead in Upper Dir

DIR: Armed clashes between security forces and militants from Afghanistan continued for the fourth day in Upper Dir where so far 48 terrorists have been killed while 28 security men and 8 civilians have also lost their lives, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to sources, security forces carried operation in Nusrat Dara, Shakiz Dara, Khara and Sonai areas in Upper Dir for the fourth day. There are unconfirmed reports of more killings in these areas.

Curfew remains clamped in Brawal, Kali Bagh, Khar and Aloks areas of Dir.

Security forces have succeeded in regaining control of Shahteer where militants had entered after being overpowered by the security men at Shalotal check post.

Pak Army, Frontier Corps and Levvies besides national Lashkar and police are carrying out the military operation in which militants hideouts are being pounded with the help of heavy artillery and gunship helicopters.

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir has expressed grave concern on militants’ assault in Dir to Afghan envoy Umar Dawoodzai. Pakistan Ambassador in US Hussain Haqqani has also voiced concern and demanded of the Afghan army, NATO and ISAF to a stop infiltration of Afghan militants into Pakistan besides taking action against the intruders.
