Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in his remarks said, “The investigation officer (IO) spoils the case deliberately. You are making excuses. Don’t they (FIA) train their staff about investigation? The court is so fed up that the entire FIA investigation team could be sent to the jail.
Supreme Court three-member bench headed by the Chief Justice was hearing the NICL case here.
Sindh FIA Director submitted an investigation report relating to the sale of a property at Korangi in Karachi to NICL. The report said that the property was bought at Rs900 million, which was higher than the market price by Rs490 million. This amount went to the joint account of one Khalid Anwar and then it was equally distributed in three accounts. Rs300 million went to one plane accident victim named Zafar Saleem’s account and thereon transferred Rs80 million each to the accounts of Naveed Iqbal and Aasim Warsi. Report also revealed that Rs300 million went into the account of accused Khawja Akbar Butt. Akbar Butt paid Rs401 million against the loan amount payable by Makhdoom Amin Faheem and his family.
Chief Justice expressing his displeasure over FIA Director report said, “Everybody is being absolved of the responsibility because of his weird behaviour.” He said that it was getting difficult to get the work done by FIA. The officer sitting in the air condition was not acquainted with the investigation. All the accused must be arrested, chief justice said.
Justice Tariq Pervaiz said, “ The person/persons from whom illegal money was being recovered are being made witness instead of the accused.”
