Pak cherishes brotherly relations with Morocco: NA speaker

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan attaches immense value to its relations with Morocco since both the countries share a common faith, culture and understanding on all major international issues, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza said on Wednesday.

She said regular interaction between the political leadership, people and parliaments of both the brotherly countries would further augment the existing ties. Dr Fahmida said this while talking to Moroccan Ambassador, Muhammad Reda El Fassi, who called on her at the Parliament House.

The NA speaker said the recent years had witnessed a smooth development of bilateral relations, increasingly strengthened constructive cooperation, active exchanges of people and culture and positive consultation and coordination on international affairs between Pakistan and Morocco. She expressed the desire to further cement the ties through parliamentary cooperation. Dr Fahmida said a Pakistan-Morocco friendship group had been activated in the National Assembly and the regular interaction between parliamentarians of both the countries would provide them opportunities to learn from each others experiences.

She said that immense economic potential exists in both countries, which should be exploited for mutual benefit. Dr Fahmida said the government of Pakistan has carried out major restructuring of the economic sector and has introduced pro-investment polices from which Moroccan investors could take advantage. She asked for Moroccan support in energy and power sectors.

The Moroccan ambassador agreed with the NA speaker and said that his government also attaches great importance to its brotherly relations with Pakistan and wants to further strengthen and diversify them through economic and parliamentary ties. He said parliaments of both the countries could play important roles in further consolidating the existing bilateral ties.
