'US raises HR issues with Pak regularly'


WASHINGTON: State Department spokesman Mark Toner stated that the United States takes the freedom of the press issues and violence against members of the press very seriously and human rights abuses issues are raised with Pakistan on a regular basis.

He was answering questions regarding brutal murder of slain journalist Saleem Shahzad and extrajudicial killing of a young man in Karachi by the law enforcement agencies.

The state department spokesman said: "we issued a statement at the time of his (Saleem Shahzad) death, his disappearance and death. We take the freedom of the press issues and violence against members of the press very seriously, as we would any human rights abuses, and we do raise human rights concerns with Pakistan on a regular basis".
