Govt requested to open account in PM’s name for donation: WikiLeaks

WASHINGTON: A secret cable of 2009 has revealed that the present government requested to open an account in the name of prime minister (PM) for submitting donations for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kuwait, WikiLeaks revealed.

According to a cable sent in June 2009, the Counselor of International Affairs, Rashid Al-Hajri, deployed in Kuwait’s foreign ministry told a US official that the Pakistan Embassy has requested a bank account in the name of PM to be opened in Kuwait to pool donations for IDPs.

Rashid Al-Hijri expressed his concerns over the possible corruption and said that why an account has to be opened for IDPs in the name of Prime Minister and not in the name of the Government of Pakistan or Pakistan Embassy in Kuwait.

As per the cable, Pakistani government had also requested to open accounts in the name of PM in other countries as well.
