Capacity-building of police key to tackling challenges: IGP

LAHORE: Terrorism, sectarianism, heinous crimes, violation of fundamental rights, lack of accountability systems and the misuse of power are the core issues, which directly affect the people of Pakistan, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Iqbal said on Thursday.
To effectively face these challenges, long-term measures should be adopted for the capacity building of police personnel, he added. Iqbal said this while addressing the participants of the 94th Group of National Management College at the police headquarters.
The IGP maintained that the policy of easy access to police officers/officials and the timely completion of investigations of various crimes was being implemented at every level under which quick redressal of the public’s grievances would be guaranteed. Iqbal said that to ensure complete protection of people’s lives and property, the police force was being trained on modern lines and they were being equipped with the latest technology and equipments.
