Pakistan, India to discuss security, Kashmir from June 23-24

ISLAMABAD: The foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India will meet in Islamabad on June 23 and 24 to discuss various issues, including peace and security, Kashmir and promotion of friendly exchanges, the Foreign Office said on Friday.

Talking to a private news channel, Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said that the three important issues would constitute the agenda of the talks at the forthcoming foreign secretary level meeting.

She hoped that the friendly exchange programmes would increase after the meeting between the secretaries of the two neighbouring countries.

Tehmina said that Pakistan was desirous of a purposeful and result-oriented dialogue with India for the sake of sustainable peace and development in South Asia.

She said Pakistan’s position on Kashmir was based on principles, adding that Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, also held a preparatory meeting with the representatives of the Kashmiri leadership on Wednesday to get their point of view on the dialogue process.

Tehmina said, both Pakistan and India had agreed that dialogue was the only way forward to resolve the important issues. app
