SC asks both sides' lawyers to obtain fresh directives from their clients

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has directed both sides’ concerned lawyers to obtain fresh directives from their clients, following the changed situation after the government wrote letter to the Chief Justice for nominating SC Judge heading a commission enquiring into the murder of journalist Saleem Shahzad.

SC two member-bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on a petition of the PFUJ praying for the setting up of high-powered commission holding the hearing here.

Earlier SC in this case had issued notices to the secretaries interior, law and information, while IGs federal capital and Punjab police were directed to submit police record and investigation progress in the case.

At the outset of the hearing today, CJ in a remark said that the government’s consultation letter for the enquiry commission has been received by the court and asked the concerned lawyers of the two sides to talk to their clients for obtaining fresh directives in changed situation and come after the court break.

Chief Justice said, “We also want that every matter should not come to the court and the government should also perform within its perimeter.

Later the hearing of the case was adjourned.
