Federal govt hires Babar for Shahzad murder case

ISLAMABAD: The federal government hired Senator Babar Awan for appearing on behalf of it regarding senior journalist Saleem Shahzad abduction and murder case in the Supreme Court today (Monday).
A high official in the government confirmed Daily Times that Dr Babar Awan would appear on behalf of the federation in Saleem Shahzad murder case.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will resume the hearing of the petition today (Monday), filed by the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) regarding the killing of Saleem Shahzad, who was mysteriously abducted on May 29, 2011 and on May 30, 2011 his dead body was recovered from a canal in Mandi Bahauddin.
Earlier, the Supreme Court on Friday had issued notices to federal secretaries of Law and Justice, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the case.
The court had also asked Law and Justice Secretary Masood Chishti and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mansoor Sohail to file para-wise comments in respect of Saleem’s killing, while Interior Secretary Qamaruz Zaman was directed to submit a comprehensive reply along with the reports, which shall be procured from Inspector General Police Islamabad and Punjab provincial police officer, where Saleem’s dead body was found.
Both IG Punjab and Islamabad will also appear in person today for the briefing about the steps taken so far to investigate the case.
Attorney General for Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq and Punjab Advocate General Khawaja Haris have also been directed to assist the court today (Monday).
