India imprisons 5 Pakistanis freed from pirates


MUMBAI: The Indian Home Ministry has imprisoned five Pakistanis who were freed from the captivity of Somali pirates in March, Geo News reported.

The Indian Navy had freed the five Pakistanis from captivity and they were transferred to Maharashtra Jail. The Indian Home Ministry declared them prisoners.

The Mumbai police had written a letter to officials at the Pakistan Embassy to take the Pakistanis back, but the officials replied that they had not received permission from the Indian Home Ministry to meet the prisoners.

The Indian Home Ministry will present these in prisoners in Tihar Jail on June 28. The date has been fixed in order to let the Pakistani Embassy identify and gain access to these prisoners so that they can take them back to Pakistan.

According to the Vice Chairman of State Minorities Commission, the Indian Home Ministry should not have imprisoned them.

The five include 24-year-old Naghzeb Nibi Baksh Baloch, 19-year-old Sajjad Ali Baloch, 20-year-old Baksh Mureed Khan, 24-year-old Farhad Alam Khan and 18-year-old Mohammad Amir Shamel.

The Indian Navy had freed the prisoners from Somali captivity on March 12.
