ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) has ordered the federal government to appoint chairman and prosecutor general for NAB in one-month time, Geo News reported.

According to sources, the SC has ordered for the immediate appointment for both the officials otherwise the court will abolish the institution and the federation will be held responsible for the consequences.

A full bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal heard the case registered by Aljihad Trust against the appointment of Deputy Chairman Javed Zia Qazi. The court had reserved the verdict on the same case a month ago.

The petition challenged the legal and constitutional use of authority by deputy chairman NAB in the absence of the chairman.

Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, a member of full bench, gave the verdict after hearing the case in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry.

According to the then judgment, the court ordered the government to appoint chairman and prosecutor general NAB in a month time else the authority of deputy chairman will be null and void.
