Benazir Bhutto’s 58th birth anniversary observed

ISLAMABAD: The 58th birth anniversary of Benazir Bhutto was observed on Tuesday across the country with a pledge to continue her mission.

Office-bearers and workers of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) arranged programmes to mark the day in all the provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan to pay homage to their charismatic leader. The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for peace of the departed soul of Benazir and for the progress and prosperity of the country. Walks, declamation contests and talk shows were also held in connection with the day. The PPP doctors, lawyers and doctors forums, labour wing, peoples’ students federations, farmers and women wings had also arranged various programmes to highlight the matchless struggle of late Benazir Bhutto for the socio-economic emancipation of the downtrodden, human rights and democracy.

A national blood donation campaign was also launched in connection with the birth anniversary of the PPP leader in all the districts today.

Blood donation camps were held in different parts of the country where people and the PPP workers donated bloods for the needy patients and those who were injured in terrorist attacks. The Larkana Peoples’ Doctors Forum in collaboration with the District Health Department set up a blood donation camp in front of the mausoleum of the martyrs of the Bhutto family in Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto. MNAs, MPAs, ministers and various people donated blood at the camp. A large number of people also joined the birth anniversary celebrations at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi to pay tribute to martyred Benazir Bhutto.

The eldest child of former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir was born on June 21, 1953, in Karachi. After completing her early education in Pakistan, she pursued her higher education from the United States. From 1969 to 1973, she attended Radcliffe College, and then Harvard University, where she graduated with a BA degree in comparative government. Thereafter, she proceeded to the UK to study at Oxford University from 1973 to 1977. There, she completed a course in International Law and Diplomacy. After completing her studies she returned to Pakistan in 1977. app
