PPP activist among seven killed in Karachi violence

KARACHI: Seven people, including an activist of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), were killed in separate incidents of violence in different parts of the metropolis on Saturday.
An activist of PPP was shot dead and two others were injured near Dhobi Ghat within the limits of Pak Colony police. Abdul Ghaffar, 28, son of Ghulam Nabi, was going on his motorcycle with a friend. As they reached Dhobi Ghat, four armed motorcyclists opened fire on them, resultantly Abdul Ghaffar died on the spot, while Kashif and a passerby Shahid alias Gaba, received bullet injuries.
Police shifted the body and injured to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). SHO Shakeel Sherwani said the victim was the resident of Block 5, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and an activist of the PPP. Victim’s brother is the area president of PPP Gulistan-e-Jauhar, SHO said. The condition of injured was stated to be stable.
In another incident, the bullet-riddled bodies of four persons were found from Old Golimar, Manghopir Road, within the jurisdiction of Pak Colony police station. A gang of unidentified culprits abandoned the bodies of four persons on Manghopir Road, Hassan Olia Village, Old Golimar and escaped from the scene. Police rushed to the scene after getting information and shifted the bodies to CHK for medico-legal formalities.
SHO Shakeel Sherwani said two of them were identified as Barkat and Faisal, employees of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), posted at Korangi office as drivers. They were the residents of Orangi Town.
Police officials said all victims were killed after being kidnapped. They said all bodies had torture marks and three of them were also shot while one Barkat had no bullet mark. All bodies were moved to the Edhi morgue for identification after autopsies.
They said that the identified victims left their homes for work on Friday evening and went missing while their cell phones remained switched off. Initial investigation suggested some Lyari gangster could be involved in the incident. Further investigation was underway.
In another act of violence, a fisherman was gunned down near his residence at Ali Akbar Goth within the limits of Ibrahim Hyderi police station. Rafiq, 25, was shot dead over some dispute with his wife and her family.
Separately, a young man was shot dead during a fight at Liaquat Ashraf Colony, Mehmoodabad, within the precincts of Tipu Sultan police station. The incident took place when some children were playing in the vicinity. A fight broke out amongst them and their parents later joined it. When some people tried to disperse them, one Zulfiqar alias Pappu opened fire. Resultantly, Yasir Khan, 23, son of Zafar Khan, received a bullet and died on the spot. After committing the crime, Pappu managed to flee from the scene. Police shifted the body to the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre for an autopsy.
SHO Arif Afridi said that the victim hailed from Mansehra and came to Karachi to meet his relative Ejaz. Police have registered a case against Pappu and initiated a probe into the case.
