Energy shortfall increases to 5,200 MW
LAHORE: The increase in demand for electricity and decrease in energy generation of some powerhouses has raised the shortfall to 5,200 MW, Geo New reported.
As the shortfall increases so do the hours of unscheduled loadshedding across the country.
According to PEPCO, energy production in the country is 13,051 MW while the demand is 18,262 MW. Despite this KESC is being supplied 750 MW.
The spokesman for PEPCO added that currently hydel is generating 4,871 MW, thermal 2,015 and IPPs 6,007 MW.
Currently cities are experiencing 8-10 hours of loadshedding while in rural areas 16 hours of power outages are being witnessed. Residents complain that the hours are being increased and the reason given is that power plants are closed.
According to PEPCO the demand for electricity increases during hot weather but the situation is expected to improve in the next few days.
