Zardari to attend SCO summit next week
BEIJING: President Asif Ali Zardari will be visiting China next week to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and hold bilateral meetings with top Chinese leadership, including the Chinese president and vice president, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Masood Khan said on Friday.
He told the media in Beijing that this would be President Zardari’s ninth visit to China since assuming office. “The president will also hold bilateral meetings with many heads of states.”
The 12th meeting of the council of heads of member states of the SCO will be held in Beijing on June 6 and 7.
The ambassador said that after getting the status of observer in 2005, Pakistan desired to get full membership of the SCO, adding that its interest in the group was fully supported by the secretary general of the organisation and supported by many member countries, including China, Russia and some Central Asian states.
Ambassador Khan said that Pakistan “fully subscribes to fighting the three evils – separatism, extremism and terrorism – and the organisation has played an important role to stamp out these menaces”. app
