Opposition terms budget disappointing

ISLAMABAD: Expressing his dissatisfaction with the newly announced budget, opposition leader in the Senate Ishaq Dar on Saturday called the financial plan for 2012-13 a “sheer disappointment”. Addressing a post-budget press conference, Dar said that Rs 50 billion to Rs 60 billion allocated for energy sector was a “meager” amount. “India has constructed dozens of dams and we desire to bring an energy revolution with such a little amount,” he said. He regretted that because of the prevailing energy crisis, the country’s business community was “migrating” to Bangladesh, Turkey and Middle East countries. The senator said the government would have to take short-term measures such as clearing circular debts and completing power projects early. “By taking such measures, over 4,000 megawatts of electricity can be produced,” he said, adding that energy growth was much-related to the overall growth rate.
