PM orders legislation on missing persons

* Gilani directs interior minister and Balochistan CM to meet at regular intervals to review law and order situation in province

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday issued orders to make special laws regarding missing persons.

A high-level meeting chaired by the premier reviewed law and order situation and developmental activities in Balochistan.

Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Law Minister Farooq H Naek, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Postal Services Minister Sardar Muhammad Omar Gorgaij were also present. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal and Science and Technology Minister Mir Changiz Khan Jamali were also present.

The meeting decided that no law-enforcement agency would issue any “rahdari” in Balochistan and the existing “rahdaris” would stand ceased forthwith. It was also decided that no one would be allowed to drive vehicles with tinted windows. Besides, non-custom paid vehicles would also be not allowed to ply on the roads. The meeting also decided that a temporary permission granted to such vehicles also stands cancelled with immediate effect.

The PM would undertake a two-day visit to Balochistan to meet people there.

The premier directed that the interior minister and the Balochistan CM would meet regularly to review law and order situation in Balochistan. The prime minister also directed the Law Ministry to formulate necessary laws with respect to missing persons and make necessary amendments in anti-terrorism law. He directed further all law-enforcement agencies to remain extra-ordinary vigilant of inimical forces which were creating disturbance in Balochistan.
