Mark Siegel’s statement made part of BB murder case
RAWALPINDI: Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 Judge Shahid Rafiq on Saturday accepted two applications of the FIA to make the statement of a foreign journalist part of the Benazir Bhutto murder case and to hold hearing twice a week. Counsel Chaudhry Azhar and FIA officers appeared from the prosecution side while counsel Malik Rafiq, Malik Jawad Khalid and Naseer Ahmad Tanoli appeared on behalf of the defendants. All accused were present in the courtroom. FIA prosecutors presented two supplementary challans and requested the court to make the statement of foreign journalist Mark Siegel part of the case. Siegel, in his statement, had confirmed the email sent to him by slain Pakistan People’s Party chairwoman Benazir Bhutto. In the email, the former premier had expressed concern over her security and threats given by former military ruler General (r) Pervez Musharraf. He also said Benazir Bhutto had sent him the email to remain a witness. He said further the BlackBerry set and mobile phone on which he received the email were both secure. FIA prosecutors said that Mark Siegel had expressed his willingness to become a part in the case and would be ready to appear before the court whenever summoned by the court. The prosecutors also requested the court to hear the case twice a week. The court accepted both the requests and adjourned the hearing until June 5. inp
