PPP decides to ‘behave’ during Punjab Assembly budget session
* Gilani, Talpur agree their party won’t indulge in any rowdiness, un-parliamentary, undemocratic and unethical behaviour like that of PML-N during federal budget
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday decided that its members of the Punjab Assembly would not exhibit undemocratic behaviour during the budget session of the assembly where its political rival PML-N holds sway.
The decision was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and PPP Women’s Wing President Faryal Talpur.
During the presentation of federal budget on Friday, the fierce protest put up by the PML-N degenerated into a fight between its members and that of the PPP. Sloganeering by the PML-N members had even made the speech of Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh inaudible, making Gilani and other members of the PPP put on headphones to listen to it
However, the prime minister and Talpur decided that during the budget speech of the Punjab finance minister, the PPP would not indulge in any rowdiness, non-parliamentary, undemocratic and unethical behaviour.
The prime minister reiterated that the PPP would not allow derailment of democracy for which the party and its founding fathers had “rendered innumerable sacrifices”.
“We will not fall into the trap of undemocratic forces,” the prime minister told Talpur. He also asked MPAs of PPP and its coalition partners in the Punjab Assembly to actively participate in budget proceedings “in accordance with best parliamentary practices”.
