PML-N asks MPs with dual nationality to resign
By Asif Mehmood
LONDON: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership has asked its lawmakers Khawaja Asif and Anusha Rehman to resign from National Assembly seats before they attract the ongoing proceedings of the Supreme Court regarding dual nationality, Daily Times has learnt.
A PML-N source, privy to this matter, said that opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had conveyed this message to both members. This seems to be an overcautious measure on the part of the PML-N, as Asif and Rehman were generally not believed to be Canadian citizens. Despite the jingoistic speeches and vehement denials by Asif and Rehman on talk shows, the fact remains that both members of parliament conveniently chose not to mention the fact that they were dual nationals.
Nisar’s status as a US green cardholder is also yet to be cleared. It was the Wikileaks which first exposed the fact that his (Nisar) family members were US citizen.
