Malik Riaz conspiring against chief justice: Nisar
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday blamed property tycoon Malik Riaz for conspiring against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry by trapping his son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar.
Talking to reporters outside the Parliament House, Nisar noted that the blackmailing and trapping of the chief justice’s son was the biggest crime. He said the time had come to bring forth the truth about the nexus between President Asif Ali Zardari and Malik Riaz. Nisar questioned how a man wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and close to former president Pervez Musharraf, had made big strides in a short span of time. He disclosed that nine retired generals of the Pakistan Army were employed by Riaz. The opposition leader called for a probe into the matter of forced occupation of lands belonging to people from his constituency in Rawalpindi. He accused Riaz of grabbing and encroaching lands of thousands of people in a housing society.
Nisar pointed out that Riaz had spent a huge sum of money on some ‘influential men’, adding that it had become necessary to know what kind of perks and privileges he (Riaz) had been enjoying in return.
He even took to task some media organisations, alleging them of taking money from Riaz. “Today, justice demands that truth be uncovered regarding how Riaz blackmailed the chief justice’s son to achieve his objectives,” he added. Nisar criticised Riaz for misusing the name of the Pakistan Navy by naming his housing society Bahria Town, and questioned his connection with the Pakistan Army. The opposition leader also accused some well-known lawyers who were at the forefront in the movement for independent judiciary, saying they had changed their loyalties and had been enjoying perks and privileges offered by Riaz.
