Amin Fahim submits statement to become party
ISLAMABAD: Commerce Minister Amin Fahim on Monday submitted a concise statement to become a party in the NICL corruption case. The Pakistan People’s Party leader contended that the Supreme Court could not direct the course of investigation followed by any investigating agency and any observations being made by the court were tantamount to a gross violation of his rights. “Unfortunately, in the matter of what is now known as the NICL case, some adverse references are being made against the petitioner and his family in the court proceedings, which are being reported in the newspapers and electronic media,” he added. “Evidently as a result of the NICL case, huge amounts of money were transferred into various accounts, including the account of Khawaja Akbar Butt. According to a report submitted by the FIA, it appears that Butt was the front man of Muhammad Zafar Saleem, also an accused in the NICL case. The petitioner as afore-stated has nothing to do with this case,” he also said. The PPP leader said that it had come to his knowledge that the court had made certain observations, particularly, by Justice Jawad S Khawaja because his wife paid Rs 40 million to Butt. This showed that the transaction between his wife and Saleem was illegal and that he or his family had some connection with the NICL case. staff report
