Pakistan-US working hard to repair ties, says FOStaff Report
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan on Thursday said that efforts were going on to repair relations between Pakistan and the US that deteriorated after the Salala incident.
Responding to queries during his weekly briefing, he said that the issues the two countries were trying to deal with were difficult ones, and one must understand that particularly after the Salala incident, this relationship really went through a huge dip.
“Now both sides are trying to resolve the issues and bring the relationship back on track, and at the end of the day, it is in the interest of both countries as this is an important relationship,” he said. Pakistan is trying to resolve the issues in the light of parliamentary guidelines, he said.
The spokesman said that these include the issue of NATO supply lines, the issue of drone attacks and the issue of apology. So, yes, there are issues and the two sides are engaging with each other in order to resolve these issues, he said.
Regarding the Haqqani network, he said that Pakistan has repeatedly said that Pakistan is fighting terrorism and extremism in its own national interest.
“We have also repeatedly said that we would not allow any sanctuary or safe haven on our territory, and we will not allow our territory to be used against any country. However we also expect that other countries will also not allow their territory to be used against Pakistan,” he said. The spokesman said that Pak-India dialogues on Sir Creek would be held in Delhi from June 18 to 19 while the meeting between the foreign ministers would be held in July.
