Spanish envoy pays farewell call on Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday said Pakistan would continue to work with Spain to address challenges such as drug trafficking, terrorism and extremism. The prime minister expressed these views while talking to outgoing Spanish ambassador Gonzalo Maria Quintero Saravia. The envoy called on Gilani at the Prime Minister’s House. The PM said that Pakistan and Spain shared common views on many regional and global issues. Recalling his successful visit to Spain in June 2010, Gilani underlined the need of high- level exchanges to further strengthen mutual cooperation. He also highlighted the need for tapping trade potential between both countries. Gilani said that private sectors and business communities of both countries should engage with each other to create necessary linkages for the benefit of their people. He praised the role of the outgoing envoy in strengthening ties between the two countries. The PM said that completion of two parliamentary terms in Pakistan would bring real revolution entailing peace, prosperity and political stability. Saravia thanked the people and government of Pakistan for excellent hospitality extended to him during his job in Pakistan. The ambassador said phenomenal economic growth of Spain was due to democracy. He said further Spain would continue to cooperate with Pakistan in the fields of trade, investment and counterterrorism. staff report
