Malik Riaz fears for life during SC hearing

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: Real estate tycoon Malik Riaz said his life was in danger as he had been receiving threats and requested the Supreme Court to provide him security during his appearance before the court on June 21.

Riaz claimed in his petition that some lawyers had threatened him during his last appearance before the apex court, and that he was still receiving threats.

He requested the court to give directions to its registrar and law enforcement agencies to provide him adequate security.

Riaz also claimed that a campaign in the print and electronic media had been launched against him and people from different factions of society were being provoked against him, adding that his life and popularity were in danger. He said he was a Pakistani citizen and paid his taxes regularly, hence deserved sufficient security to present his case in the court.

It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court has taken notice of the special protocol given to Riaz on an earlier hearing and sought explanation from the capital police in that regard.
