NATO supply route to reopen this month: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production Chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed on Monday said that NATO supply would be reopened this month, but the US has to tender apology.

Talking to the Defence Reporters’ Forum (DRF) at Parliament House’s cafeteria, he said that most of the matters had already been settled with Washington. “Reopening NATO route is nearer (within June) but the US apology is awaited and there is no way out other than this,” he said.

He said that the US also had no choice, adding that if it could apologise to Afghanistan for a similar incident then why not to Pakistan.

November’s NATO strike on Pakistan’s Salala border post killing 24 Pakistani soldiers caused Islamabad to immediately suspend the supply for coalition forces in Afghanistan. On Pak-India talks on Siachen, Mushahid said that New Delhi had not changed its stance on the issue that it had been holding since 1989, so resolution of the issue seemed difficult.
