Prime Minister-elect vows fair, transparent polls

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister-elect Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday invited the opposition for reconciliation and vowed to ensure supremacy of the Parliament, strengthen democracy and hold free, fair and transparent elections. “Powers to all the institutions flow from the Parliament.

The Parliament manifests aspirations of the people and we shall ensure that nobody exercises this right of the Parliament and the people,” he said in his maiden speech after election as Prime Minister.“Some undemocratic minds try to belittle democracy and the people of Pakistan.

This is an irresponsible thinking that the country can be run against the aspirations of the people,” he added. Recounting the sacrifices of his leaders Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the newly-elected Prime Minister also pledged to tread on the path of leaders and make every effort to strengthen the democratic institutions and respect the will of people.

“We are at a critical juncture of history that entrusts on political forces to manifest sagacity, unity and collaboration to take forward the democratic process and ensure free, fair and transparent elections for the continuity of democracy,” Pervaiz said and sought the cooperation of the opposition to achieve this goal.
