Appoint special court judges in three days, orders SC

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Ministry of Law and Justice to complete appointment process of Special Anti-Corruption Judge for Karachi and Hyderabad within three days, Geo News reported.

A three-Judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain on a constitutional petition also directed for speedy appointment of judges in Banking Courts across the country.

Deputy Attorney General Raja Aleem Abbasi told the court that there is no judge in Karachi Anti-corruption court since 25th May, 2011.

The CJ remarked that the accused got free due to the absence of judges and the courts are then blamed for this lapse. This court has failed to understand why the government is delaying the appointment, he observed.

Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja remarked that introduction of provision for due process was the hallmark of parliament, but when the appointment process for judges in these courts was delayed, how the cases would proceed!

The court directed the concerned authorities to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible and the hearing was then adjourned till 2nd July.
