Energy crisis, Karachi unrest big challenges: PM
* Raja Pervez says all political forces must unite to resolve country’s problems
* Parliament is mother of all institutions

KARACHI: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said on Monday that he and his party considered the energy crisis and law and order situation in Karachi as two major issues the government has to address and resolve on priority basis.
Talking to reporters at the Kingri House where he met PML-Functional chief Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashd, Raja said parliament was mother of all institutions and if they all continue to work within their domains there will be no instability in the country. He said the country was at a critical stage and needed solidarity among political forces, and end of hatred.
He termed his election as new premier after disqualification of Yousaf Raza Gilani as continuation of the democratic process, and said that he will remain in the office until he enjoys confidence and support of God, people and parliamentarians. Pir Pagaro assured continued support of his party to the PPP government, saying his party was in the coalition because of President Asif Ali Zardari’s reconciliatory policy.
Later, speaking at MQM headquarters Nine-Zero, the prime minister vowed to resolve problems being faced by the people of the country, with collective efforts of all allied parties. He said that he would make extraordinary efforts to address the energy and law and order problems. He assured MQM chief Altaf Hussain that he would address and resolve issues pointed out by him.
Altaf had on Monday underlined the need for best working relations among the executive, parliament and judiciary in the supreme interest of the country and the people. He welcomed the election of Raja Pervez Ashraf as prime minister, and said he belonged to middle class and thus he knew the problems of the general public. He expressed the hope that the prime minister would make the best use of his capabilities and available resources for the resolution of the people’s problems, especially power shortage. He assured his party’s full support to the government. Altaf asked the prime minister to make necessary legislation to resolve the controversy of dual nationality of the parliamentarians.
