Malik’s reply sought in PSM corruption case
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court asked Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik to submit a written reply over changing the investigation team in the Pakistan Steel Mills corruption case in 2009. A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is hearing a suo motu case for initiating contempt of court proceedings against Malik for changing the investigating team that was probing the Steel Mills corruption case. He was asked why he had changed the team that had been constituted by the court. The chief justice said that changing the team was an intrusion in the court’s work as removal of Tariq Khosa from the investigation team had caused much damage to the inquiry. However, Malik claimed that the team had been dissolved on the commands of the court. During the proceedings of the case, Malik said that Justice Javed Iqbal had exempted him from attending the hearing. The chief justice said no such order was mentioned in the case file. Malik requested the court that he wanted to submit a written reply regarding the matter. The court directed him to furnish a written reply at the Supreme Court Registrar Office. The hearing was adjourned until July 23. staff report
