LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed the election of Raja Pervez Ashraf as prime minister of Pakistan, saying the United Kingdom would continue to support the democratic process in Pakistan.
According to a press release issued by the Pakistani High Commission in London, the British prime minister, while talking to President Asif Ali Zardari by telephone, lauded Pakistan’s role in the war against terror and assured him that United Kingdom recognised and appreciated Pakistan’s commitment in fighting extremism that not only had posed a serious threat to Pakistan but was a global menace.
President Zardari conveyed his acknowledgement to Prime Minister Cameron for the enormous support extended by United Kingdom for Pakistan’s efforts and sacrifices in combating terrorism.
Zardari, who had arrived in London on a short private visit on Wednesday, thanked the British people as well as the prime minister for their strong support for democracy and assistance to Pakistan in pursuing its agenda of poverty alleviation and eradication of illiteracy.
