Sindh cabinet decides more cops, public transport for Karachi
KARACHI: The newly-formed seven-member Sindh cabinet in its maiden meeting on Saturday evening focused on the law and order situation in the province, especially the spate of target killings and other disturbances in Karachi, Geo News reported.
The meeting, which was presided over by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, decided to recruit 7,500 more personnel for the Sindh police in order to tackle the challenges of law and order in the province.
Briefing mediapersons about the cabinet meeting, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the inspector-general of police had once again been given "a free hand" to take action to restore peace in the city.
The meeting also discussed appointments in the government departments which were made during the tenure of the provincial caretaker government, and some ministers expressed their reservations over those appointments.
The meeting decided to launch a service of 200 buses in the city immediately. In this connection, the cabinet constituted a committee comprising ministers Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Sharjeel Memon and former provincial transport minister Akhtar Jadoon. The committee would submit its report within a week.
The meeting decided that work on the under-construction Karachi Circular Railway would be expedited and efforts made to launch the mass transit system in the city in the next six months.
The meeting also expressed the resolve of the provincial government to provide all basic amenities to the people.
