New government capable of tackling national issues, says Khoso

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister, Justice (Retd) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso Saturday said that incoming government had the ability to successfully handle all internal and external issues confronting the country.

“I believe that the incoming government is efficient enough to resolve all issues efficiently like energy crisis, terrorism and other problems. They would face them successfully as they know better where the problem exists,” he said in an interview with Pakistan Television.

Khoso said that he was extremely pleased to see the elections were held smoothly as his government had been mandated. If such smooth transition goes on in future, most of the country’s issues would be resolved, he added.

The Prime Minister said the government-in waiting had leant a lot from the history so it would tackle the national challenges prudently.

Prime Minister Khoso said the country had earlier been a victim of instability owing to frequent changes of the government and repeated martial laws, however, “now the country will see stability after smooth democratic transition as in the past we had been kept away from democracy.”

Replying to another question, he said political parties of Balochistan and Khyber Puktunkhwa took part in elections and if the same system continued smoothly, the country would be able to tackle the prevailing crises.

“However, there is need for good governance. Education is a pre-requisite for progress. There is disparity in our education system particularly in Balochistan and Sindh where education standard is comparatively low,” the prime minister added.

He hoped that the new government would better handle such issues including that of Balochistan.

“There should be flexibility in the behaviour. We should examine the pulse and handle it accordingly,” he remarked.

He said, “We will have to rise as one nation and pursue the Quaid-e-Azam’s golden principles of unity, faith and discipline as following them we can achieve development and prosperity.”

Responding to a question, Prime Minister Khoso said his government’s sole mandate was to hold elections that had been made possible, owing to the firmness of his team despite various speculations regarding the elections.

“I believed it would have dire consequences if elections were not held. I have never been such happy like today. I have seen Pakistan coming into being. Now I am seeing the democratic transition,” he said.

About law and order issue in Karachi, Khoso said the metropolis should not merely be considered as Sindh’s capital as it housed various communities including Sindhi, Urdu-speaking, Baloch and Pashtun.

When asked about any guideline for the incoming government, he said they were more experienced than him and are aware of all the issues.

Prime Minister Khoso said taking charge as caretaker prime minister was a difficult task but he and his cabinet members were committed to holding elections in free, fair and transparent manner and “we successfully managed to achieve the task”.

He said there were many challenges such as energy crisis and economic issues but from the very first day the caretaker government had decided to hold elections amid all problems.

“We knew the importance of elections for the country. We knew our responsibility. So in collaboration with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as well as all provincial caretaker governments we facilitated the election process which we considered as the most vital for the national harmony.”

With regard to reported rigging in the general elections, he said perhaps there were some incidents at the local level but at the federal level, no rigging occurred and overall elections were held in free and fair manner. app
