Execution of capital sentences necessary to control crime: SHC CJKarachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Mushir Alam said on Monday that it was responsibility of government to execute the convicts who have been awarded death sentence by the courts.
Law and order situation would not improve unless the death sentences awarded to convicts are executed, Chief justice said while taking to media during his visit to Anti-terrorism court (ATC). He expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of ongoing renovation work at ATC and ordered for completion of work as soon as possible.
Chief Justice further said that convicts whose sentences have been confirmed were enjoying illegal facilities in the prisons but their punishment is not executed.
Chief Justice was of the opinion that such convicts involved in heinous crimes were operating their networks in the city and make others to perpetrate. He said that ATC has decided 50 percent cases and awarded the sentences, yet tactics were being used to defame the judiciary, he added.
He said that there would be no advantage if the ATC works day and night to decide the cases and awards punishments unless such punishments are executed. Chief justice said that due to external pressure, punishments were not executed.
He held that it was responsibly of the government to provide judges and other facilities to judiciary for dispensation of justice.
