SC will write history in Musharraf treason case
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday made it clear that the case of high treason against former president Pervez Musharraf for promulgating emergency and the PCO on November 3, 2007 was of national importance, and wanted to take it to its logical end.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, heading a three-member bench that is hearing the high treason case against Musharraf, said the court wanted to write history in this case, which would be written in law books as precedent in the future. “We have to decide about the Article 6 of the constitution for all times to come.”
During the proceeding that lasted for half an hour, AK Dogar, representing Maulvi Iqbal Haider, one of the petitioners, said the November 3 action was unique in the whole world.
Dogar said that Hamid Khan, while arguing his case in the SHCBA case, had stated that there was no need to issue a notice to Musharraf, but the court issued him a notice so that he could clarify his position. The case has been adjourned until today.
