PTI, JI vie for Education Ministry in KP
Staff Report
PESHAWAR: The incessant difference of opinion over the education ministry portfolio between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Jamaat-e-Islami is delaying completion of cabinet of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.
“As the issue of education ministry is resolved between the two sides the cabinet ministers will take oath immediately,” the sources spoke to Daily Times. According to the sources, the JI insists to get the education ministry while the PTI leadership appears split as some leaders oppose the move while others support.
Unconfirmed reports said senior PTI and JI leaders, including PTI MNA Jahangir Tareen and JI Provincial President Prof Ibrahim and KP Senior Minister Maulana Sirajul Haq would meet in Peshawar today to hammer out the issue.
CM Pervez Khattak took oath of office on May 31 and he is assisted by two senior ministers – Maulana Sirajul Haq and Sikander Hayat Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party – who were also administered oath the same day by Governor Shaukatullah Khan.
“If talks produce results the remaining ministers from PTI, JI and QWP may take oath in evening,” the sources said, adding that the controversy over the education ministry would not last long.
The JI leaders argue it will not bode well for the coalition if the promise over the education ministry, to be given to the rightwing JI, is dishonoured.
Meanwhile, JI has announced the names of its ministers on Tuesday. Maulana Sirajul Haq will hold finance, Inayatullah education and Habibur Rehman Ushar and Zakat ministry.
The QWP has not yet released names of its ministers except provincial president Sikander Sherpao Khan, who took oath of senior minister on May 31. “We have finalized the names for three ministries, QWP is given and as PTI and JI reach consensus and we will announce the names of our ministers,” Sikander told to Daily Times.
