Budget to focus on economy, end to load shedding: Ishaq Dar

* Finance minister says circular debt has reached to Rs 500 billion and the upcoming budget will be devised in a way to get out of this vicious circle

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar has said that the upcoming budget will mainly focus on the revival of economy with special focus on overcoming the circular debt to resolve the prevailing energy crisis.

Talking to the media after assuming the office of the federal minister for finance, revenue and economic affairs and statistics, Dar said that the federal budget for the upcoming financial year 2013-14 would be presented before the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 12, after its approval from the federal cabinet. He said the government had already devised a strategy to overcome prevailing challenges at the economic front, including the energy crisis.

Before the presentation of the budget in the National Assembly, a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) to consider and approve funding for Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) (2013-14).

Dar said that the circular debt had expanded to Rs 500 billion, and added that the upcoming budget would be devised in a way to “come out of this vicious circle”. app
